Palestine (Russia?): Rishon LeZion Jewish settlement token, c. late 19th C. (1889/92?); copper; may be maker-maked "J" or Hebrew "Lamed"; size: 28.5 x 33.5mm; weight: 8.15g. Obverse: orchard & fields of Rishon LeZion; Hebrew date of "5642" (1882) in exergue; legend upper edge (Yeshayahu, ch. 41): "The first to Zion here they are, and to Jerusalem a portent I shall give"; on bottom edge, "Colonia Rishon LeZion". Reverse: image twin windows: depicting prayers at Western Wall & seed sower; with Star of David above + legend "Who will deliver from Zion the salvation of Israel" (Psalms, 14) & "If I Forget Thee O Jerusalem, May My Right Hand Forget its Cunning". Possible makers-mark to right of 2nd window. Possibly issued when local Great Synagogue inaugurated (1889) or when Rishon LeZion was 10 years old (1892); spelling errors suggest foreign make. Brilliant uncirculated, almost proof-like, so rare.
