Stoletov A. G. Research on the magnetization function of soft iron. The first edition of his lifetime.
Moscow. Publication of the Imperial Moscow University. In the University printing house (Katkov and Co.). 1872 80, [II], p., 2 inserts. Soft cover, regular format (15 x 22.5 cm). good condition: worn cover, dirty and dented first 8 pages, rare Fox spots.

[Alexander Grigoryevich Stoletov (July 29 (August 10), 1839, Vladimir — may 16 (28), 1896, Moscow) was a Russian physicist, honored Professor at the Imperial Moscow University.

The main research is devoted to the problems of electricity and magnetism. Main works in the fields of electromagnetism, optics, molecular physics, and philosophy.

His work enabled the continuous progressive development of Russian physics.

He developed a new method for measuring the magnetic properties of a substance on ring-shaped samples (the so-called ballistic method, which is widely used in the practice of magnetic measurements).

When studying a non-independent gas discharge, it was established that the electric field strength to the gas pressure at the maximum current is a constant value (constant).

In April 1872, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Research on the magnetization function of soft iron". His name is becoming widely known abroad.

The laws of the photoelectric effect and magnetic properties of substances discovered by him are widely used in engineering. From Stoletov's discoveries were born dynamos, electric motors, solar cells, sound films, television, solar panels of spaceships, etc.

Teacher of many Russian physicists, among them: D. A. Goldhammer, P. A. Zilov, N. P. Kasterin, R. A. Kolli, P. N. Lebedev, V. A. Mikhelson, A. P. Sokolov, B. V. Stankevich, N. A. Umov, I. F. Usagin, N. N. Schiller, V. S. Shcheglov, etc. Stoletov and his students significantly improved the level of physics teaching and research in Russia.

Led a large scientific, organizational and pedagogical work. Author of a number of philosophical and historical-scientific works. An outstanding popularizer of scientific knowledge, a talented natural history historian.]
