Tur Orach Chaim with Beit Yosef. Venice, 1589. Signatures and Notations

Tur Orach Chaim with Beit Yosef by Rabbi Yosef Karo "HaMashbir Bar L'Chol HaAretz." Venice, Di Gara Press. 1589. Many signatures and notations on the title page in ancient Ashkenazic script. Approximately 25 handwritten glosses along the length of the sefer, some of which are lengthy. Thick, impressive volume. Beautiful, well-preserved copy.

Beautiful early edition of Tur Orach Chaim with the Beit Yosef commentary. The book was printed on its own, not as part of Arba Turim. Text on the title page: Printed with close examination and proofreading by ... Rabbi Yitzchak Gershon ... No mistake was left by him.

Signatures: "Belongs to Elisha bar Menachem Galiko" (not to be confused with Rabbi Elisha b"r Gavriel, the Safed sage, who passed away in 1578, 11 years before this book was printed), "Hashem granted me this ... Mordechai Puah" son of Tuviah [Ephraim?] z"l. "I Tuviah [Ephraim?] gave this Ba'al Turim ... Chananiah Cohen ... " "And now it is mine, Menachem ... Mordechai Galiko ..." (slightly blurred). Other signatures, in a foreign-language. Additional lengthy notation: "27 Tammuz 1630 I gave this book to Rabbi Avraham [...]dah ... son of Menachem Shimshon son of ... as a loan to be returned when I desire. I, Yehoshua Uziel son of the deceased Rabbi Elchanan ... ztz"l."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the Galiko family.
