A charming and unique two-part lot of antique or vintage brass fireplace accessories, featuring a rare miniature hearth set with a sporting dog finial and a separate, substantial pair of antique hearth tongs. This collection is perfect for collectors of sporting memorabilia, miniatures, and traditional brassware.
I. Miniature Brass Companion Set (5 Pieces)
This is a complete, five-piece miniature hearth set, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th Century, used as a novelty item or for a small hearth/dollhouse.
Stand: Features a heavy circular base supporting a central column. The stand is crowned with a superb Setter or Spaniel dog finial standing "on point, " making this a highly desirable sporting piece. The stand includes three hooks for hanging the tools.
Tools (4 Pieces): Four matching miniature tools hang from the stand: a small tongs/scissors, a poker, a miniature shovel/scoop, and a small hearth brush (with original bristles).
Handle Detail: All four tool handles feature matching decorative brass finials (appearing to be small horse heads or similar hunting motifs) near the implement end.
Condition: In excellent overall condition for its age, retaining a deep, natural patina. The stand is sturdy, and the tools are complete.
II. Antique Hearth Tongs (1 Piece)
A separate, heavier set of brass fire tongs, likely for a standard-sized fireplace.
Design: These are scissor-style tongs, made of solid brass with a simple, functional, loop-end design. They display a lovely, simpler form characteristic of earlier brassware.
Condition: Displays significant wear and a darkened, aged patina consistent with regular use around a fire, adding to its authentic antique character.
Combined Condition & Patina
Both sets display a highly desirable, untouched aged brass patina with variations in colour and surface tarnish, indicating genuine age. The lot is presented in 'as-found' condition, which is often preferred by serious collectors who value original patina over polished brass.
