The history of the art and auction house Peter Karbstein begins in 1980 with the first art auction at Hohenzollernstrasse 36 in Düsseldorf under the name Karbstein & Schultze. The Karbstein & Schultze auction house existed until 1988 and was continued as sole managing director by Peter Karbstein, who has been active in the art trade since 1970. The company can now look back on more than 30 successful years in the art trade. The premises on Hohenzollernstrasse were abandoned shortly after the 99th art auction in 2007 and just in time for the 100th anniversary auction in February 2008, the Peter Karbstein art and auction house opened its doors at Kurfürstenstrasse 16 in Düsseldorf. The company's continuous expansion did not slow down and in 2013 the Valori exchange room was founded at Immermannstrasse 16. In addition to antiques and exhibits from Peter Karbstein's art collection, you will also find changing exhibitions by contemporary artists. In 2014, the long-established Kunsthaus Peiffer, including the frame workshop of long-time friend Erich Leuwer on Bismarckstrasse 59/61 in Düsseldorf, was taken over. The experienced auctioneer and art dealer Peter Karbstein also started producing frames and restoring paintings, graphics and furniture.During the summer break of 2018, the former Valori exchange room was converted into another exhibition space by the auction house; an auction with a focus on design will now be held there for the first time on November 3rd, 2018.The exhibits can be viewed from October 28, 2019, but also in advance and by arrangement. The original small auction house on Hohenzollernstrasse has become an internationally operating company that is constantly expanding its customer base not only through the intensive use of new digital options such as online live bidding. Bidders and consignors come from Asia, the Middle East, Russia, Europe, North and South America and Australia.
