British H5 Mark I Wooden Ammunition Transit Box for .303 Cartridges - A British military H5 Mark I pattern ammunition transit box of composite construction, comprising a wooden body with brown-painted metal banding and corner reinforcements. The box is fitted with a heavy-duty metal wire carrying handle with a central grip and a removable lid secured by two side-mounted spring-loaded tension latches. The exterior side is stencilled in yellow paint with 288 CART, .303 BALL-, MK 7 CTN, and GB 23.9.52. An orange diamond hazard label is affixed to the side, printed 1.4S, U.K. MILITARY EXPLOSIVE, SAFETY EXPLOSIVE. One side wood panel is stamped H5 followed by a broad arrow symbol, MK I SV 141A, and the maker mark R & H W LTD 1950. The underside of the lid features the stencil SV 59.S.A and retains two of three original foam/felt spacers.
