A Pair of German Hand-Painted Ceramic Wall Plaques with Dutch Maritime Scenes - This pair of large circular ceramic wall plaques or chargers features hand-painted maritime scenes in a folk-art style. The decoration depicts figures in traditional Dutch attire, including wide-legged trousers, aprons, and wooden clogs, situated on a shoreline or dock. Traditional sailing vessels are shown in the background against a blue sky. The scenes are rendered with broad brushstrokes over a white ceramic body. The reverse of each plate is fitted with two pre-drilled holes in the foot rim for hanging. A circular black backstamp on the reverse reads MADE IN GERMANY. Diameter: Approximately 30.5 cm.
