African Tribal Mask - - A hand carved Kwele Bata Mask, attributed to the Kwele tribe located in the Cameroon & Gabon regions of Africa. A unique piece with recessed heart shaped frame, & an ovel face suspended below, boasting a triangular nose, narrow eyes & a small mouth at the base of the chin. The frame often referred to as Bata or The Horns Of Rams, represents the unification of the spirit world with the tribal village. Historically the Kwele tribe’s people believed that these masks were a way to tap into the powers of their ancestors, therefore in times of crisis they were worn during ceremonies.
