W. Churchill Books - - An extremely rare set of first edition volumes of ”Marlborough: His Life and Times” by Winston S. Churchill, published between 1933 and 1938, with the First volume being signed by Churchill and dedicated to Maurice Percy Ashley (1933), historian and his literally assistant during the writing of the books. A Four-volume set, uniformly bound in exquisite red full leather, adorned with gilt tooling on the spines and covers. Each volume is embellished with raised bands, gilt lion motifs, and the initials WSC at the bottom of the spine. The work is Churchill’s biographical and historical tribute to his ancestor, John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, and a significant literary achievement. Includes fold-out maps (like the campaign map of Sedgemoor, 1685) and illustrations. A richly detailed account of military campaigns and political affairs of late 17th and early 18th century Europe. Condition: Used/good, some wear commensurate with age to all but we'll preserved overall, especially the First volume. The fourth volume displays major humidity and water damage.
