Antique Oil Painting - - An original antique oil on canvas, depicting a portrait of a young boy with rosy cheeks, wearing a cap and holding flowers. His eyes are almost closed as if in deep thought or contemplation. By acclaimed Dutch artist Suze Robertson (1855 - 1922) Robertson belonged to an elite group of artists known as The Amsterdamse Joffers. Born to a family of merchants, she displayed an early talent for drawing. She began her studies in 1874 at The Royal Academy of Art, at The Hague. Where she aspired to win 1 bronze medal, & 2 silver medals. Her works of simple people & rough scenes of farm life, were reminiscent of Van Gogh’s early works The Potato Eaters. It was well renowned his works were of great inspiration to the young artist. A newspaper clipping from a publishing in 1997, attached to the back, in the Dutch language, providing additional information about the artist. Circa : Late 19th/Early 20th century. Condition : Used, small amounts of wear to the frame & loss to the main border, cracking to the painting commensurate with age, overall good. Dim : 53cm (H) x 49cm (W)
