Ludwig van Beethoven
Bust of the musician Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Made in bronze, without artist's signature or foundry marks. Especially considering the state of its patina, we consider that it is an original work datable to the late nineteenth century, perhaps c. 1870, the year of the first centenary of his birth. The foot of the sculpture has two original holes in order to anchor the bust on a base or decorative set, perhaps in allusion to an allegorical group on Music or to the composer and performer himself.
Beethoven is portrayed in frontal position, without clothing or clothes on his torso, where the anonymous artist of this compositionj must have had the objective of capturing the psychological profile of such an outstanding character.
