Anonymous Spanish, 13th-14th century - Iron brazier, 13th-14th centuries. Wrought iron brazier. Spanish work from the 13th-14th centuries. It has a restored handle. Rear grill. Wrought-iron brazier with a circular base, three flat legs, a body made up of two flat rings joined by vertical sections decorated with simple scrolls facing each other, and two handles on the upper part similar to the sections and ending in washers. Inside, there is an iron grill of a later date than the rest of the piece, with a restoration on one handle. It is very similar to another wrought-iron brazier dated between the 12th and 13th centuries that is now in a private collection; compare it also with a third, rectangular brazier in the Museu Episcopal de Vic, dated to the 14th century. The spirals that form the decoration of the piece are often referred to as 'curling irons', an element used in the few examples of Romanesque ironwork and ironwork that have survived. We should bear in mind the decorations of the grilles of the Church of Santa María del Camino or del Mercado in León or the one that has been placed in the choir in the church of San Vicente in Ávila, or those preserved in the Diocesan Museum of Jaca (Huesca). The preserved examples of Romanesque braziers are very rare: square, with the same type of spirals, one in the Diocesan Museum of Tarragona and another in the possession of the Junta de Castilla y León.
