Spanish Guitar, by Domingo Esteso in 1940 - Spanish guitar with its original case signed by the famous Spanish luthier Domingo Esteso López (San Clemente, Cuenca 1882 - Madrid 1937). Trained in Madrid in the workshop of his master Manuel Ramírez, he began his independent work in 1915, when he established his guitar workshop in Madrid's Calle de Gravina no. 7, in the company of his wife, Nicolasa Salamanca, who varnished his guitars. In time, he trained in this trade his nephews and later masters of the Spanish guitar, the three Conde brothers, the third generation of whom Felipe and Mariano Conde would stand out. This guitar, hand dated 1940 in dark ink, belongs to the second period of this saga, between 1937 and 1959, the year of Nicolasa Salamanca's death. The original label, which can be seen through the soundhole, reads: ‘VIUDA DE / DOMINGO ESTESO / Constructor de guitarras / Gravina, 7. = MADRID / AÑO 1940’. Among the masters who performed their art with guitars from this house, Alirio Díaz, Quintín Esquembre, Manolo de Huelva or Regino Sáinz de la Maza, among others, stand out. It presents a general state of preservation for restoration; two cracks on both sides, with loss of wood; wounds on the top and back; knocks on the case and upper tear on the handle; no strings.
