Mehemet Ali Stamp (1769-1849) Governor of Egypt - Mehmet Ali or Mehemet Ali (1769-1849) was governor of Egypt on behalf of its Sultan. Born in the lands of the Ottoman Empire, he is considered by history to be the founder of modern Egypt. He made important improvements for his country, including major reforms and the expansion of its borders. Lithographed print signed by Louis-Charles Legrand (ca. 1829-1858) with a modern plain wood and glass frame. Inscribed in the centre, at the bottom: ”MÉHÉMET - ALI VICE-REI DO EGYPTO”; signatures ”Lith de Mel Luiz R.N. dos Martyres n.º 12” (on the left); ”C. Legrand” (on the right). 19th century.
