Attributed to Isaac van Oosten (Antwerp 1613–1661) – Saint Hubert of Liège praying before the stag - Painting attributed to Flemish painter Isaac van Oosten (Antwerp 1613–1661). Saint Hubert of Liège (Toulouse c. 657 – Tervuren, Belgium, 30 May 727) was a Catholic saint, son of Bertran, Duke of Aquitaine, a family of high social standing. The painting depicts a day of hunting in which a deer pursued by Hubert stopped in front of him, showing him a crucifix between its antlers. Hubert understood this as a divine message, after which he distributed his wealth among the poor and embraced the ecclesiastical life, becoming bishop of Maastricht. Oil on panel.
