Pair of ruffs. Italy or Spain, c. 1575–1600 - A pair of collars made from brocade in shades of maroon and gold. They are decorated with spindle-shaped motifs or lozenges, accompanied by pairs of stylised spindle-shaped leaves in an oriental style, joined to a single stem. This pair of textiles may be directly related to a textile fragment, in the form of a curved cut-out for the side fringe of a chasuble, held by the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid (MLG), specifically, Fragment of a chasuble in brocade with gold and silver thread (inventory no. 01666; height 67 cm, width 24 cm); see the third-to-last image reproduced and: https://www.museolazarogaldiano.es/buscador-de-fondos?query=01666&page=0 The design of the pairs of large leaves decorating both the MLG textile and those appearing on the collars presented here are exactly the same, as can be seen in the last two comparative images reproduced here.
