Suzanne Meunier Point (Suresnes 1888 – París 1979) - Naked woman next to a swan - Signed in plate in the upper left-hand corner: ”S. A nude woman is shown lying on her back next to a swan. Lithographic print coloured in different tones. This print, based on a drawing by Suzanne Meunier, was marketed in the early 20th century from Paris throughout Europe thanks to the work of the prestigious Parisian house of Edouard Hautecoeur (1847-1904) based at 35 Avenue de l'Opéra. Suzanne Meunier Point was a French painter, designer and printmaker specialising in female nudes. After studying drawing and painting at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris, she was an active member of the Union des femmes peintres et sculpteurs UFPS (Union of Women Painters and Sculptors) founded in the French capital in 1881 by the sculptor Hélène Bertaux (1825-1909). Later, in 1911, she travelled to Barcelona, where she continued her training at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and published her first drawings in the Catalan magazine Hojas Selectas. On returning to Paris and signing her work as ”Suzanne Meunier”, she began to publish her designs in France, in defence and support of women during the First World War, in Pages folles (1914), Le Sourire (1917), La Vie parisienne, Fantasio and in Eros, from 1922, and in 1916 she also exhibited her work at the Parisian gallery Joubert. The dissemination of his work became more important when he became associated with the Camilla Lucas gallery in New York and the Paris Engraving Society, a period to which the work we present here may correspond.
