Bidspirit auction | Velasco (siglo XIX). Three bandits

Velasco (siglo XIX). Three bandits - Sevillian school, c. 1850-1880. Brown ink and wash on paper. Signed ”= Velasco =” at lower right. Sizes: 14.4 x 18.2 cm (stand); 23 x 27 cm (frame). Three men dressed in men's clothing from the second half of the 19th century are drawn half-length. While two of them are smoking, the third is holding a gun over his shoulder. It seems that the artist, whose surname is Velasco and who is unidentified, has drawn the three figures together in his composition without establishing a dialogue between them. It could be that the artist's aim was to show different popular types from a specific Spanish region, perhaps Andalusia, as the variety of hats shown in the drawing may correspond to different positions among them.
