Provenance: art and antique auction Baerveldt IJlst, March 20, 1991 (as 'Eight puppies', sold at the time for 7,200 guilders. The painter was present at the auction and was highly surprised by the prices of his early work: 'I see it and I thought: you should see those idiots').
