"UNION OF JEWISH FRONT-LINE SOLDIERS" MEMBERSHIP BADGE
Buttonhole-type membership badge from the Austrian "Bund Juedischer Frontsoldaten" ("Union of Jewish Front-Line Soldiers"). The organization was founded in 1932 in response to the growing support for National Socialism and its attendant antisemitism in Austria. Jews had been excluded from Austria's other veteran groups as well. The Bund supported Jewish settlement in Palestine and the Dollfuss regime, despite the latter's anti-Semitic stance. Scarce member's bronze stickpin bearing organization's emblem of a laurel wreath encircling crossed swords and the Bund's initials "BJF", about 7/8 in. across, with buttonhole attachment on reverse. Fine.
