SEPHARDIC JEWISH ORGANIZATION "ESPERANZA" PIN, VIENNA
Ca. 1910 enameled pin issued by "Esperanza", the academic organization established for Sephardic Jews, this example being from Vienna. The shield-shaped pin is 7/8 in. tall, in green enamel with a white banner reading "ESPERANZA" and a gold Star of David and "VIENNA" appear in gold letters. With pin back, fine. This club's main objective was to highlight members' Sephardic origin. A Ladino library was established, but most of the students were forced to return to their native countries on the outbreak of World War I.
