Notes: This atmospheric landscape by Francis Danby reflects the influence of J.M.W. Turner, whose work Danby first encountered at the ”Royal Academy Summer Exhibition” of 1813. The dramatic light and romantic treatment of nature suggest a direct response to Turner’s ”Mercury and Argus”.
