Sold at Hammersite Auctioneers, January 2016, lot 19892. Private collection, Israel. Notes: In 1913, at the age of ten, Brauner constructed his own easel and began experimenting with painting. During this period, His father, a Jewish timber merchant, was deeply interested in spiritualism and Kabbalah studied and often organized seances, which young Victor would observe in secret. During this period, he attended the Lutheran school in Braila, where he developed an interest in zoology. He later attended the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest from 1916 to 1918, This expressive rare painting from his early years shows him watching his father friends studding the kabbalah.
