A Wood Lacquer and Organic Material Inro and Netsuke Set, Japan, Edo Period, 19th Century - Four tiered inro decorated with a biomorphic motif highlighted in gold lacquer in takamaki-e technique and textured with dense nashiji. Strung with a himo cord and secured with a turquoise-coloured ojime bead. At the other end of the himo is a netsuke carved from organic material as a crab beneath a shell, with engraved details filled with sumi ink and a rich patina.
