An Embroidered Silk Robe, China, Early 20th Century - A ceremonial robe made of black silk, richly embroidered by hand in vivid colors. The front of the robe is decorated with large round medallions containing figures, traditional Chinese symbols, and cloud motifs. Along the sleeves, hem, and collar are inset light panels densely embroidered with organic patterns and traditional symbolic motifs. The embroidery is executed in multicolored silk threads incorporating motifs such as ritual vessels, flowers, and typical Chinese decorative elements. The interior is lined with blue silk.
