Ludwig Blum (1891-1975), The Pink House - Watercolor on paper 1941 Signed and dated (lower right) and dedicated (lower edge). 19 x 26.5 cm Provenance: Estate of the Van der Wielen family. By descent to the grandfather of the present owner. Notes: Mrs. Van der Wielden was a Jewish and British born widow of a wealthy Dutch businessman and a personal acquaintance of Ludwig Blum. She was an educated woman with feminist views and appreciation for art. During the 1920's she immigrated to Palestine where she became associated with the Tel Aviv bohemian circles. This work was personally gifted to her by Ludwig Blum. “The Pink House” was the summer residence of Mrs. Van der Wielen and her sisters in Haifa, located at 26 Horev Street, and bore the inscription “HOUSE VANDERVILEN.” The house was designed by architect Oskar Kaufmann (1873-1956), who also designed the Habima Theatre in Tel Aviv and the Ora Cinema in Haifa.
