A Large and impressive( Lazem) silver Amulet necklace- Yemen 1900-1940 - This large and impressive silver  necklace consists of five main plaques on the upper part. silver squares decorate the surface. silver beads connect the plaques. The central plaque has a read glass bead with Islamic motif etched into it. On the bottom of the necklace there are the amulet holders which in this case were used in their own right  and do not hold sacred texts. Original braided string holds the different elements together.  Silver content probably around 500 silver. It was common to use low grade silver in the rural areas of Yemen weight: 798 grams dimensions: 35*20cm * Lazem necklaces like this one before us were used by both Muslims and Jews alike, living in the rural areas in Yemen. In San'a Only Muslims and young Jewish girl wore them.
