Yemenite Jambiyyah and sheathe with belt - early 1930's - The Jambiyyah has a horn hilt with many little metal pieces hammered into the horn. Gilded silver plaques cover the main nails. The sheathe is made of wood, leather and filigree low grade silver plaques. The belt is woven and embroidered with silver wire in calligraphic design. Parts of the belt are dyed in red and green. Velvet decorates part of the belt.  * Jews in Yemen were not allowed to use knives as they were considered ”protected ones” not the protectors. None the less they were allowed to design The silver ornaments on the belt and the dagger.  * The dagger was a symbol of manhood in the Arab world. It also is the only item that Muslim men are permitted to decorate and have Jewels on. * usually the handles were made from rhino horn. dimensions of dagger:20 cm  dimensions of dagger in sheathe : 32 cm dimensions of belt: 105 cm
