An elaborate zoomorphic gilded silver and coral ”Shokila” ornament -Uzbekistan, Khorezm/(Bukhara?)-19th century - This elaborate item which was part of the ethnic ” Shokila” ornament is worked on both of its sides. It is adorned with many large coral beads and set with turquoise. Birds flank the upper part of the ornament. Each one with a coral in its mouth. Fine filigree work within a triangle element. Floral repousse work on the main body of the ornament.  punched silver ornaments,some set with turquoise hangs, from the bottom of the main body. Two hooks for attaching to the body are each side of the piece.  the piece is cut, soldered, gilded, embossed, strung, punched. some turquoise are missing from their setting.  dimensions: 20*8cm coral sizes: 4-10mm weight: 217 grams *The size and amount of corals on these Shokila items was determined by the wealth of the owner. An item like this was owned and commissioned by a very rich family.
