Antique 1851-1853 Appliqued Floral Vases Quilt - Antique 1851-1853 Appliqued Floral Vases Quilt Measuring 86 by 86 inches. It is signed and dated 1851 to 1853, Robb/Bain families. This is previously from the Dr. Virginia Gunn collection. She purchased it online in 2000 with no accompanying documentation. This quilt is donated by Xenia Cord of legacy quilts. Xenia writes ”5 large green pauses, each with a semi-symmetrical arrangement of gold and red flowers and green leaves. The flower shapes are symmetrical but colors occasionally shift from red to gold. Under each vase is a slender vine half red, half gold, with a single gold flower an arrow shape leaves possibly Arrow Arum Peltandra virginica, native to the Chesapeake Bay area. The pattern blocks are set 9 patch style with the orientation of all 5 in the same direction, set on point. The pattern blocks and Vining border with an assortment of the same shapes in the bases or quilted in sets of 2 closely spaced lines about one inch apart, extending through all of the appliqué. In the for white setting blocks are large feathered circles and the centers with small feathered circles in the corners. In the white square the top just under the sleeved edge, the 4 smaller feathered circles have dates and names, initials in the center. J Bain 1852, W Robb 1851, E Rob 1853, EBB? 1853. The narrow binding is double pink, worn on the edges. Sleeved for hanging. One faint port protein stain near border vine causing fabric deterioration. AQSG thanks Xenia Cord for her generous donation.
