Antique c1900 Cake Stand Quilt - Ontario Mennonite - Antique c1900 Cake Stand Quilt measuring 65 by 76 inches. It is comprised of 30 pieced blocks, 7 by 7 inches, set on point, 5 by 6, with a red shirting print alternating square and setting triangles. There is a 2.5 inch solid red border, followed by a 2.5 inch red shirting print border, and a 2.5 inch solid red outer border. There is thin cotton batting and a red floral stripe reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red shirting print binding. It is hand and machine pieced, and hand quilted. The quilt was made by a Mennonite quilter in Western Ontario, Canada and was sold by Carol Telfer, a quilt dealer in Canada. While this is an unusual style for a Mennonite quilter she was assured of its background. It was is exhibited in 2001 at the Dreamweaver's, Textiles of the World Exhibit at California State University Library, Sacramento California. It is in good condition with a few small spots and minor discoloration along the top edge. This quilt was generously donated to AQSG by Carol Gebel.
