[JAPAN] 5 PAGES FROM ANTIQUE JAPANESE BOOKS OF THE EDO PERIOD. - A precious documentary ensemble comprising pages from Japanese books of the early Edo period, namely: Early Edo-period Census Ledger. Manuscript pages from a land census ledger of Edo-period Japan. The entries record land widths and area measurements in Chinese numerals, reflecting an administrative function commonly undertaken by samurai officials in the service of feudal domains. Manual of Chinese Calligraphy. A didactic treatise providing systematic instruction in the art of writing Chinese characters. Composed in classical wenyan (文言) Chinese, the text elucidates the fundamental principles of brush technique, stroke order, and character composition, offering insight into traditional pedagogical approaches to calligraphy. Anatomical Text (Circulatory and O rgan Systems). Pages from a Japanese anatomical treatise produced under the influence of Rangaku (蘭学, “Dutch Learning”). The illustrations, executed in red ink, delineate the vascular structures of various organs, while the accompanying text identifies anatomical nomenclature and describes circulatory pathways.
