OFFICIUM HEBDOMADAE SANCTAE. Secundum Missale & Breviarum Romanum… Antverpia [Antwerp], ex Architypographia Plantiniana. 1780. 479, [i] págs. 11,8 x 7,2 cm. E. - Edition by the Officina Plantiniana of the prayers and rites of Holy Week, in accordance with the Roman Missal in the latest version approved by Pope Urban VIII. The Officina Plantiniana of Antwerp, founded by Christophe Plantin in 1555 and directed by the Moretus family following his death, held a papal monopoly on the printing of the official liturgical texts of the Roman Church — and was, for more than two centuries, the most important typographic workshop in Europe in this field. This 1780 edition, still bearing the name Architypographia Plantiniana, is therefore a direct product of that privileged tradition. Printed in red and black, in keeping with the convention of liturgical editions — red reserved for the rubrics and black for the text of the prayers — with decorated initials and fleurons, some bearing the pontifical coat of arms. Illustrated with an engraving on the title page and four engravings within the text, depicting episodes from the Passion of Jesus Christ. Contemporary binding, full leather, worn, with raised bands and gilt tooling on the spine and boards. Gilt edges decorated with blind tooling. Overall condition good; tear on the leaf comprising pages 69–70, with loss of support, slightly affecting the text.
