Advertising Poster Creative Playthings Fredun Shapur Ball - Original vintage advertising poster for the Creative Playthings toy shop in Manhattan, New York, designed by South African toy maker and illustrator Fredun Shapur (b. 1929). This is one of a series of ten posters created by Shapur, illustrating the different forms of play – dramatic, active, social etc – and the products available in the shop. In addition to going on sale at Creative Playthings, the poster designs were also used for wrapping paper and in the company catalogue. Shapur’s signature style – bold blocks of colour, androgynous faces, graphic simplified shapes – is evident in this design, which shows a child in a white and blue sailor's outfit, holding a large red ball above their head, against a green background.
