Advertising Poster L'Echo de Paris Newspaper Jules Chéret - Original antique advertising poster for the French literary and political newspaper L'Écho de Paris, created by the notable French artist Jules Cheret (1836-1932), known as the ”father of the modern poster”. The poster presents a prime example of Affiche Artistique from the Belle Époque era, depicting a lady in a dress made out of a newspaper holding her hands to her mouth, advertising the newspaper. L’Écho de Paris was a conservative French daily newspaper founded in 1884, known for its literary serials and political commentary from figures like Octave Mirbeau, Guy de Maupassant, Emile Zola and Georges Clemenceau. It merged with Le Jour in 1938, continued briefly during WWII, and was ultimately scuttled in 1942. Printed by Chaix, Paris. Fair condition, restored tears, faint writing in bottom right corner, staining, paper losses on image, backed on old linen, some elements lifting off of linen.
