The poster details the historical journey and impact of the number system that originated in India and was refined and popularised by Arab scholars. The system, including the concept of zero (called sunya, meaning ”empty”), came to Baghdad in the ninth century. Arab scholars, notably Al-Khwarizmi, developed this into the place value system using only 10 symbols, which made complex calculations much easier than previous systems like Roman or Greek numerals. Despite its efficiency, Europeans were slow to adopt the system until Arab teachers demonstrated its superiority in the thirteenth century. Published by the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco).
