Advertising Poster La Fleche Breham Hingre Art Nouveau - Original antique advertising poster, designed by the French artist Louis-Theophile Hingre (1832-1911) is a masterful example of the Art Nouveau style. Created for the Parisian printing ink manufacturer La Fleche Breham, the poster elevates the mundane product of ink into a scene of alchemical mystery and ethereal beauty. The central focus is a graceful, long-haired goddess or allegorical figure draped in an ornate, flowing gown. She is depicted as a celestial chemist, holding a glass flask of vibrant green liquid while plumes of dramatic smoke rise from a heated retort on a stone plinth beside her. This imagery cleverly symbolises the ”magic” and precision of the chemical formulations behind the brand's inks. The composition is framed by characteristic Art Nouveau decorative elements, including sinuous organic lines and stylised floral motifs of tall blooms in the foreground. The typography is equally decorative, with the company’s name and address - 12 Rue de Tournon, Paris, integrated into the design with elegant, curving lettering. Hingre, who was primarily a sculptor but greatly admired the work of Alphonse Mucha, borrowed Mucha's iconic curvaceous aesthetic and adapted it to his own detailed style for this series of commercial advertisements.
