Advertising Poster Varga Girls PinUp Centrefold Model Americana - Original vintage fold-out calendar, titled Varga Varieties of 1946, is a quintessential example of mid-century American glamour and pin-up art. Created by the celebrated artist Alberto Vargas (1896-1982), this piece was originally published in the January 1946 issue of Esquire magazine. It showcases the transition from wartime propaganda to the sophisticated aesthetic of the post-war era. The composition is an elegant panoramic display featuring twelve unique Varga Girls, each personifying a month of the year through a distinct pose and ensemble: Varga’s signature airbrush technique is evident in the luminous, idealised skin tones and the delicate, flowing fabrics that define each figure. The illustrations reflect the glamour of the late 1940s, ranging from chic swimwear and evening gowns to playful dancer costumes and high-waisted shorts. The central cartouche features ornate, scrolled borders with classic serif typography, complemented by whimsical pink cursive descriptions for each month. Alberto Vargas was at the height of his fame during the 1940s, and his ”Varga Girls” were cultural icons that boosted the morale of millions of servicemen during WWII. This 1946 edition represents a celebration of the first full year of peace, moving away from military motifs toward pure, high-fashion fantasy. The reverse features a large foldout image of a model in a yellow swimsuit - Miss January, Nineteen Forty-Six! This lovely starts a banner year In patriotic hue, Her hair is red, her suit is gold, Her eyes are clear and blue, She's half life-size to please you guys And tannde in beauty's art, The tops in tricks for '46- So pin her to your heart!
