Advertising Poster Golden Shred Marmalade Seville Oranges Golliwog - Original vintage food advertising poster for Golden Shred marmalade, produced by James Robertson & Sons. This striking mid-century design features a large, stylised illustration of the famous and now controversial Golly mascot, which served as the company's trademark from 1910 until 2001. The character is depicted with its iconic ”pop eyes” and a broad red smile, wearing a blue jacket, a yellow waistcoat, and a bright red bow tie. In its hand, it holds a detailed jar of Golden Shred marmalade, prominently displaying the brand's label. The bold black typography at the base declares: ”Golden Shred gets its tang from Seville Oranges,” highlighting the traditional use of bitter Spanish oranges in the preserve. First introduced by John Robertson after a trip to the United States, the Golly symbol became the face of one of the UK's longest-running customer loyalty schemes, where collectors exchanged jar tokens for enamel badges. Large size. Good condition, creasing, staining, tears, paper loss on left edge. Country of issue: UK, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 152x102, year of printing: 1950s.
