An Extremely Rare Flintlock Breech-Loading Repeating Magazine Pistol On The Lorenzoni Principle By H.W. Mortimer - Two stage slightly engraved damascened smooth bore barrel in cal. 14 mm, octagonal then round after a baluster. Pivoting fore-sight. Rounded action and bevelled back-action lock, the former finely decorated with a starburst around the upper and lower gas-escape. The tang plate decorated with a classical trophies of arms. Lock plate marked ”GUN MAKER To His MAJESTY” and decorated with engraved trophies is signed on the upper rim ”H. W. Mortimer”. Hinged magazine cover for balls on the left side and trigger-guard engraved en suite. Cock automatically cocked via a flat bar on the inside engaging with a circular breech-block and operated by a curved side-lever of tapering circular section with button terminal. Chequered rounded grip. London circa 1790, length 38.5 cm. Harvey Walklate Mortimer, gunmaker to George III (1730–1820), took special interest in the repeating mechanism thought to have been invented by the Florentine gunmaker Michele Lorenzoni (d. 1733) over one hundred years earlier.
