A Saber for Cavalry Officers M 1845 with Older Blade - Single-edged, curved, broad blade with wide fuller on both sides and back point. On back probably inscribed ”POTTENSTEIN”, figure of Madonna and inscription ”Maria Mater Dei Patrona Hungariae Sub Tuum Praesidium Confugio” on outer side. Double cross and remainder of inscription on inner side. Wooden grip covered with fish-skin and bound with twisted silver wire. Iron hilt. Rare asymmetrical basket pierced with floral decorations. Slot for sword-knot in upper part of basket. Steel plate scabbard with two lockets and movable rings. Austria, 18/19 century, length 102 cm. Condition 2
