Item Overview
Description:
SNUFFBOX IN THE FORM OF A MOUSE IN STRIPED AGATE AND SILVER. 19TH CENTURY
A rare and expressive snuffbox in the form of a mouse, carved from hollow natural banded agate, exemplifies the refined fusion of lapidary and silversmithing craftsmanship. The fully detachable lid is a sculptural composition in the shape of a mouse, with delicately rendered ears, paws, and fur. The flat, oval base is made of solid agate and set in a silver mount engraved with a wave-like pattern and embellished with old-cut stones: sapphires, garnets, and rubies. The mouse’s eyes are set with natural cabochon-cut sapphires, lending the figure depth and a lifelike quality.
