TRIUMPHAL CHARIOT WITH VENUS AUSTRIA / GERMANY, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY - A rare jewelled clockwork sculpture in the form of a triumphal chariot drawn by two galloping horses, guided by a winged cherub and carrying Venus, the goddess of love. Crafted in gilded silver, adorned with polychrome enamel, natural pearls, and semi-precious stones, this piece is a masterwork of both horology and decorative arts. The timepiece is integrated into one of the chariot’s wheels, featuring a relief dial with Roman numerals on enamelled cartouches, surrounded by a border of cabochons. The clock mechanism, housed under a hinged lid, remains intact and has undergone a full technical revision. The base is made of polished lapis lazuli, supported by bun feet and edged with basse-taille enamel floral scrollwork.
