Bidspirit auction | SILVER LANGOUSTINE SPAIN, 20TH CENTURY
SILVER LANGOUSTINE SPAIN, 20TH CENTURY - A naturalistic decorative figure of a langoustine crafted by Spanish silversmiths from high-grade silver. The sculpture is created using casting techniques followed by chasing and careful hand finishing that render the structure of the shell, claws and legs of the marine crustacean. The figure is distinguished by expressive plasticity and precise anatomical modelling. The segmented carapace and tail form a dynamic silhouette, while the elongated antennae and legs enhance the sense of movement. A notable feature of the piece is its articulated construction: the body is composed of linked segments and the claws are mounted on small hinges. The silver surface combines matte and polished areas, emphasizing the relief of the shell and joints. Such silver figures were traditionally used as original decorations for a fish or seafood table, continuing the European tradition of naturalistic table ornaments.
