Bidspirit auction | Bezalel Jerusalem, Rare Silver Menorah

Bezalel Jerusalem, Rare Silver Menorah (Hanukkiah) with Filigree-Decorated Candle Cups - This rare Menorah (Hanukkiah) is one of the most prestigious examples created at Bezalel. While this model is sometimes seen made of silver-plated copper, the piece presented here is a rarer example made of 935 silver (a standard commonly used in the pre-state era). The Menorah is stamped on the front with ”Bezalel Jerusalem”. On its back, it bears the marks ”sterling” and ”935”. On the side of the branch holding the candle cups, there is an additional monogram mark along with ”935” again. This Menorah was manufactured for export, which is why the ”sterling” mark was added. The top portion of the candle cups is decorated with delicate filigree work, which adds unique character and beauty to the piece. The shamash (helper candle holder) matches the shape of the cups but lacks filigree work, leading us to believe it was likely replaced at some point. Height: 17 cm Width: 16 cm Weight: 190 g
