ANTIQUE 19TH C. FRENCH BRONZE PLAQUES BY BARYE
An antique pair of bronze plaques modeled by Antoine-Louis Barye, French, 1796 to 1875. Eagle attacking Snake and Eagle Attacking Stag. Signed Barye in the foreground and Eck Et Durand foundry stamp in the back of both plaques. These plaques were intended to be mounted on a piece of furniture or set in the base of a clock. Modeled circa 1824-1826. Antoine-Louis Barye was a Romantic French sculptor most famous for his work as an animalier, a sculptor of animals. His son and student was the known sculptor Alfred Barye.
