ESTONIAN SEASCAPE PAINTING BY KRISTJAN RAUD
Kristjan Raud, Estonian, 1865 to 1943, oil on canvas seaside painting depicting a boat in the frontside. Signed to the back. Framed. Kristjan Raud was a symbolist painter and illustrator who was one of the founders of the Estonian National Museum. Folklore elements figure heavily in his subject matter and his style is reminiscent of primitivism. His twin brother, Paul, also became a well-known painter.
