RUSSIAN COSTUME DESIGN SILKSCREEN BY LEON BAKST
Lev or Leon Samoilovich Bakst, Russian, 1866 to 1924, silkscreen on paper depicting a costume design of a Young Boeotian for the ballet Narcissus, after the original watercolor and pencil painting, 1911. Printed in Paris in a very limited edition. Signed with a facsimile signature and dated lower right. Titled in French in the print upper left. Circa: 1940s. Framed. Lev Bakst, an artist, set designer, illustrator and designer, worked mainly in St. Petersburg and Paris, one of the trendsetters of European fashion for exoticism and orientalism at the beginning of the 20th century. Vaslav Nijinsky, Russian, 1889 or 1890 to 1950, was a ballet dancer and choreographer cited as the greatest male dancer of the early 20th century.
