RUSSIAN ORTHODOX THREE HOLY HIERARCHS BRONZE ICON
An antique Russian Orthodox gilt bronze icon of The Three Holy Hierarchs, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom. The icon depicts three glorified hierarchs, standing straight in height, great teachers and church fathers, St. Gregory the Theologian with a blessing in his right hand and with the Gospel in his left, St. Basil the Great with the Gospel in his hands and John Chrysostom with the Gospel in his right hand. The saints are dressed in richly ornamented hierarchal robes with long omophorions on their shoulders. Above the halos of the saints there are large relief letters of naming inscriptions. The icon ends with a keeled pommel with an image in the clouds of Christ the King of Kings in hierarchal robes in the image of the Great Bishop with blessing hands. A kind of crown glory is created for the icon by seven slotted Seraphim six-wings on rods. Circa: 19th century. Antique Russian Bronze Icon, Religious Wares For Collectors.
