ANTIQUE 18TH C JAPANESE EARLY EDO WOODBLOCK PRINT
An antique Japanese early Edo period woodblock print from the 18th century. The print depicts a Japanese ikebana artist arranging a lush floral arrangement with a pine tree in a large vase. Behind him sit two people, one of whom is a samurai, watching him work. There is an inscription in Japanese at the top right. Provenance: from the collection of Dr. Horacio Fabrega, Pittsburgh, PA. Ukiyo e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints. The term ukiyo e translates as picture of the floating world.
